Slatback Chair
Charles Moore designed the Slatback Chair in 1987. The Moore Foundation is now producing these chairs and benches in a limited, numbered series.
Its design is emblematic of Moore's preference for layering and turning ordinary materials on their edge. Each thin slice of plywood contributes to the whole, adding up to make the "space" of the chair. Light filters between the slats, casting patterns and accentuating the elegant silhouette.
Each Slatback Chair (made from a single sheet of Baltic Birch) is handcrafted by foundation staff and interns. The chairs and benches are then finished with translucent, honey colored varnish.
* The Slatback Chairs and Benches are not designed for outdoor use.
